Design a package that is a prism or pyramid, and construct a model of it. Do not use a rectangular prism - too boring!
First, try out some ideas by sketching. You will not need to turn in these sketches. After having chosen an interesting design (but not more complicated than you can construct!), cut it out and make sure it does fold into a solid. Then construct or draw it, using compass, ruler, and/or geometer. If you have constructed a fairly complex polygon, you may trace it if you need others of the same shape. When you have completed the drawing, find the Volume and Total Surface Area, showing all work.
Trace your package design onto another sheet of paper, fold it into a package, and tape it together. Tape it to your first page, and hand the two in together. You do not need to hand in the sketches.

Take this project further. You may do one or all of the following: construct the package design using only compass and straightedge OR SketchPad. Dream up a product that would go in the package, and draw a picture of the product on the package. Color it all with colored pens/pencils or in SuperPaint. Write (or type) the name of the product, and some advertising/descriptions that will make people want to buy your product. If you use SuperPaint, turn the project in on disk. You don't have to put a real product in the package, but if you do, I like chocolate! Visit http://www.auntannie.com/boxbag.html for some really cool ideas!
