Woolaroc Museum, Bartlesville, Oklahoma
Landmark Submitted by Nomads 1 from Pond Creek, Oklahoma, USA.
My landmark is Woolaroc. It is located in the Osage Hills near Bartlesville, in northeastern Oklahoma.
There is a 3600 acre wildlife preserve and it is home to more than 700 unusual and interesting animals and birds, who are protected by 15 miles of fencing. Some of the animals are bison, emu, llamas, ostrich, peafowl, African pygmy goats and many more.
Woolaroc was the country home of Frank Phillips, who founded Phillips Petroleum (Phillips 66). The name came from a combination of WOOds, LAkes, and ROCks. There is the Woolaroc Museum, Frank Phillips' lodge, a Native American Heritage Center, a nature trail, the wildlife preserve, and a petting zoo. The museum has western art and artifacts, and cultural exhibits.
I chose the Woolaroc Museum because it was built by Frank Phillips, who founded an oil company and my dad works with oil. Oil is important to the economy in Oklahoma.
