Hello from snowy Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

We are in Mrs. Clayton's grade 5 class. There are approximately 500

students at Frontenac School, K-8. There are two classes of grade five.

We have a multimedia classroom which means we have four computers in our

class, Internet hookup, our own TV/VCR, camcorder, etc. We use computers

in every subject and really enjoy that opportunity.

Our mascot is Sparky, a dragon. Our sports teams are called Frontenac

Flames.

Our school is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.

We are selling T-shirts and have a family barbecue planned when the snow

goes away.

Sometimes our city is nicknamed "Winterpeg" as it can be very cold and

snowy for 6 to 7 months.

When it is really cold outside (-30 C and with a wind-chill of 1900 or more

we have to stay inside for recesses).

Last week it was too cold and so we had extra turns on the computer that

day.

We are lucky that our school offers so many different music programs:

choir, honor choir, band, honor band, guitar classes, jazz band, etc. Our

class is planning to go see the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra perform for one

of our fieldtrips in February.

Our summers can be very hot and sunny. You may have heard about Winnipeg

on the news last summer as we

were battling the Red River, known as the Flood of the Century. We are

very glad to have the Floodway outside of Winnipeg to help divert some of

the flow of the rivers around Winnipeg instead of through the center of our

city.

One very exciting part about being in grade 5 at Frontenac School is

participating in the Learning On Line project. We each take home for 3

weeks a computer that Powerland Computers has lent to our school. Eight

of us each month borrow a computer, as well as some families use their own

to participate in the Internet assignments that my teacher makes. You can

read more about our project on our school's homepage.

The computers at home will help us with the Landmark Game, we hope.

If you want to do some of the assignments with us, you can do that too.

E-mail Mrs. Clayton and she will explain what to do.

There are 25 students in our class. We hope to divide up the clues and

help each other solve them. We hope you enjoy solving our clues.
