Virtual Math Teams SpringFest 2007

Dear Math Teacher,

We would like to invite you and your students to participate in the Virtual Math Teams SpringFest 2007 to be held May 1-11. We have run similar programs the last two years with great participation from a few teams across the U.S. The students who participated enjoyed being in charge of their own investigations and generated some interesting mathematical explorations. This could be a great opportunity to end your school year with a motivating and rich mathematical activity.

The goal of this program is to engage students in open-ended and team-based math problem solving via the Internet. This year's event will focus on probability problems appropriate for high school and advanced middle school students. Only basic understanding of probability is required.

Using the VMT math chat software with a shared whiteboard, students from your school will be placed in teams with students from other schools (and other countries!) to solve problems and publish their solutions in the VMT Problem Solving Wiki.

We expect to hold four sessions of 1 hour each for every team over the period May 1-11, 2007.

If you are interested in participating, please apply here.
