Problem Solving in Geometry and Measurement

This course will provide teachers an opportunity to deepen their understanding of topics and student learning in geometry and measurement and the problem solving process. Teachers will discuss their own solutions to problems about perimeter, area, volume, and properties of triangles. Exploration will include the use of interactive applets and dynamic geometry software. Teachers will analyze student work to discover strengths and weaknesses in order to make more effective instructional decisions.

  This moderated course will be led by Annie Fetter, Problem of the Week Administrator. It will take place online using Blackboard/Vista. The only technical requirements are a web browser and Internet access.

Who: Open to all teachers and tutors working with elementary and middle mathematics.

When:

January 12 - February 22, 2012
Registration closes at 5 pm EDT on Thursday, January 12, 2012. There will be approximately 15 hours of seat-work involved in this course.

May 3 - June 13, 2012
Registration closes at 5 pm EDT on Thursday, May 3, 2012. There will be approximately 15 hours of seat-work involved in this course.

Credit: All individuals who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate indicating that they have completed 15 hours of professional development. This is equivalent to 1.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
