Orlando Meetings: Presentation Summary

Back to Orlando: Other Courses

This is the summary of a presentation given at the Joint Mathematics Meetings, January 10-13, 1996, Orlando, Florida.

Recognition and Construction of Graphs of Elementary Functions

Experienced mathematicians can often glance at a graph of a function and guess what function has been graphed. We discuss the imparting of this skill to first year Calculus students. This technique is useful in constructing models to describe data and understanding this technique is the basis of certain types of data analysis.
