Using Guided Discovery of Recent Research in an Undergraduate CourseA description is given of an innovative final exam project that has been used successfully in an upper level combinatorics class. In completing the project, the students are guided to discover recent mathematical results (and in one case, to improve a result.) It is explained why the project is successful and how it relates to similar projects done by others. An assessment is made of the impact of such guided discovery on various types of students. |
