Other Comments: I love the tool. A couple of years ago, I was discussing the Monte Hall problem with my Honors Level Sophomores. After much discussion as to whether switching makes a difference, one of my students ended the debate by proposing the problem were changed to include 1,000,000 doors. He asked the student who was the leader on the side of the debate which claimed there would be no difference, what the probability of choosing the correct door is the very first time. (Answer: 1/1,000,000) Then if all the remaining doors but one were opened, what is the probability that the prize is behind the remaining door? (Sheepish Answer: 999,999/1,000,000). The students' insights into the problem were remarkable and I am happy to say that this tool allows students of mathematics to make this same observation by increasing the number of doors. Well done! |
What math does one need to know to use the resource? Just the rules of the game. I would like to see the problem stated and restated on each applet. |
What hardware expertise does one need to learn to use the resource? just how to use a mouse. |
What extra things must be done to make it work? When working with the "Generalized Monte Hall" I could not use my mouse to choose "switch" from the pop-up menu. I could, however, press the down arrow to select it. This may be a problem within the applet that should be investigated as I am not sure if students would consider the work-around in order to get past this feature. |
How hard was it for you to learn? Easy |
Explanation: Aside from the aforementioned workaround on the generalized Monte Hall page, the tool was easy to figure out. |
Ability to meet my goals: Very Effective |
