Presentation Summary


This is the summary of a presentation given at the 74th Annual NCTM Meeting, 25-28 April 1996, San Diego, CA.

Using distance learning, phone, fax, and the Internet students can be turned on to mathematics and its real world applications. Hands-on activities that excite students and increase teacher understanding and awareness relate to the Standards and their application. Equity and career awareness will be emphasized.The presentation will look at how technology makes learning exciting and relevant. Participants will explore a variety of technologies: distance learning; software; electronic fieldtrips; calculators; and internet resources. The emphasis will be on the integration of technology and instruction to connect classrooms across America in meaningful activities. Handouts include lesson plans from the TEAMS distance learning lessons participants will do hands-on during the presentation. Internet resources will be explored through the TEAMS home page.
