NCTM San Diego
Presentation Summary

This is the summary of a presentation given at the 74th Annual NCTM Meeting, 25-28 April 1996, San Diego, CA.

During this first of two parts, we will suggest strategies for teaching problem solving, reasoning and critical thinking. Participants will attack several problems, identify solutions, extend the problem to alternate solutions, and then, by varying the problem, encourage creativity on the part of the students. An attempt will be made to discover the mathematical underpinnings of the problems discussed.Stephen Krulik (Temple University, Philadelphia, PA)
