NCTM San Diego
Presentation Summary

This is the summary of a presentation given at the 74th Annual NCTM Meeting, 25-28 April 1996, San Diego, CA.

Building on children's love for and experience with games, a variety of problem solving strategies can be developed and practiced. Students can also learn to create their own problems by changing the rules or the format of various games. Changes in the rules or format of games may require students to develop different strategies for winning. Furthermore, students work on communication skills by discussing their strategies. Participants will practice problem solving skills along with changing rules. A discussion of the learning that is possible will follow.Jean Marie Grant (Bradley University, Peoria, IL)
