Children Solving Problems: Using Video to Interpret Strategies and Infer Meaning

This presentation will offer videotapes of individual children from predominantly minority elementary schools outside Washington, D.C. who are solving math problems. Those who attend this session will be clustered in small groups and reflect on the strategies being used by the children. Participants will offer inferences regarding the student understanding revealed through these tapes. The session will conclude with a brief summary of the characteristics of the classrooms of the videotaped children.
