Presentation Summary

This is the summary of a presentation given at the 74th Annual NCTM Meeting, 25-28 April 1996, San Diego, CA.

This session will reflect on the role of parent involvement in mathematics education and the reform movement from the fifteen-year perspective of FAMILY MATH and its Spanish version, MATHEMATICA PARA LA FAMILIA. Activities will be presented to illustrate characteristics of successful curriculum and presentation styles for parent and family groups with children from preschool through grade 9. Participants will also learn about the impact of FAMILY MATH in the diverse communities where it has flourished and discuss how FAMILY MATH and other parent involvement programs can be implemented in other settings.Virginia Thompson (University of California, Berkeley, CA)
