Bridge Across the Pacific -- Ideas from Australia K-12

Immerse yourself in Australia mathematics education for a day! Teachers in both the U.S. and Australia are working towards making mathematics relevant, worthwhile, and enjoyable. This day provides a hands-on chance to hear about ideas from "Down Under." The many presenters are all teachers or mathematics educators from Australia. As well as whole-group feature presentations, there will be "smorgasbord sessions," where participants move from station to station around the large room to explore topics of interest. Topics include "Successful Approaches to Problem Solving," "Linking Assessment and Instruction," "Teachers Developing Curriculum," "Chance and Data for Everyone," "Calculators in K-4, 5-8, and 9-12," "Staff Development that Works," and "Australia and the U.S. -- Similarities and Differences." All the sessions will have an emphasis on actively involving participants, and they will receive a packet of materials covering all of the topics.
