Back to NCTM San Diego: Algebra For Everyone

This is the summary of a presentation given at the 74th Annual NCTM Meeting, 25-28 April 1996, San Diego, CA.

This workshop will explore ways patterns with manipulatives can allow students to generalize and thereby create algebra for the "general" case. Activities from Math and the Mind's Eye units Visual Math, and Math Learning Center, will be used. The process of exploring many different ways to write the same expression is very powerful for students.
