| In his "Musikalisches Würfelspiel" (Musical Dice Game), Mozart offered two choices for the eighth and the 16th bars, and 11 choices for each of the other bars. Mozart's idea was that from the stock of bars, the composer will be able to "generate" a huge variety of melodies by selecting randomly from the choices available per bar. There is a page of related mathematics features probability and combinatorics problems and solutions; another page allows for online composition and playing of melodies (MIDI). | |
