| A National Science Foundation project charged with developing new approaches to the assessment of mathematical competence in the elementary and secondary grades. This project has created a type of mathematics assessment that contrasts sharply with traditional forms of testing, which rely primarily on multiple-choice questions. Balanced Assessment focuses on rich, mathematically complex work that requires students to create a plan, make a decision, or solve a problem, and then justify their thinking. The site contains samples of mathematics assessment tasks; the complete collection of more than 250 tasks is available for purchase in paper and CD-ROM formats. | |
