Go to Sea World Project

PROJECT TITLE: Team Field Trip - Sea World.

PROJECT DATES: 26 February 1999 into March 1999.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES: The learner will be introduced to the animals, plants, and habitats available for viewing at Sea World in San Diego, representing those found in the seven major ocean regions of the earth, in order to prepare the students for hands-on activities upon return to Frisbie, to include an appreciation of endangered oceanic species, both flora and fauna.

DISCIPLINE INVOLVEMENT:
  • LANGUAGE ARTS: The learner will create an alphabet list of the animals, plants, or geography viewed at Sea World; the learner also will complete the Dive Into Sea World Research Table in order to create a database for further activities; the learner will keep a trip journal which will be used to create an essay describing the field trip using the formal writing process.

  • MATHEMATICS: The learner will complete mathematical analyses using statistics derived from the Research Table created during the field trip; the learner will use information of various time, speed and distance-related requirements to establish various mathematical-relationship models. The learner may create a tessellation of an aquatic animal figure.

  • SCIENCE: The learner will complete the creation of a three- dimensional representation of an aquatic animal and its habitat observed on the field trip and then prepare a formal written report.

  • SOCIAL SCIENCE: The learner will complete an analysis of the geography, ocean regions, and habitats of the various animals and plants observed on the field trip, and will create a map of Sea World reflective of map-making and keying terminology; the learner may investigate why, or why not, certain aquatic animals can be domesticated.

  • RSP: Support will be provided both RSP and general education students in understanding the lessons provided in the academic areas as well as in researching responses and preparing required presentations or reports.

  • TECHNOLOGY: The learner will use technology resources available in the rooms and the library to secure supporting information for the requirements of the academic classes; and, the learner will use technological resources to word- process the culminating essay describing the field trip.
